IEM3 Workshop: Call for Papers

Intelligent Environmental Monitoring, Modelling & Management Systems for better QoL Workshop

Download PDF version here.

Quality of Life (QoL) is directly related to the environmental pressures and conditions, including air quality, pollen, drinking and bathing water quality, noise pollution, waste production, energy consumption, nutrition and many others. The plethora of living patterns, as well as the availability of various ICT that are interwoven to the urban web, calls for a detailed, intelligent, personalized and yet easily generalized ways for monitoring, modelling and managing environmental systems and conditions. On this basis, the involvement of new ways of monitoring environmental parameters, as well as the employment of intelligent methods for analyzing and modeling environmental problems towards better management, is a major way for maintaining and improving quality of life. Human centric approaches in environmental information services also require intelligent, knowledge-centric methods and tools, that are flexible, adaptable to environmental problems, and perform better in terms of knowledge mapping and system behaviour reproduction. State-of-the-art intelligent environmental systems feature distributed intelligence, incorporating smart sensors, participatory sensing applications, actuators, equipment, and advanced knowledge of any changes in environment. Environmental management applications make use of computational intelligence methods and tools for better modeling, forecasting and decision making in environmental problems, aiming at supporting QoL. As part of ICANN 2010, the workshop will bring together researchers interested in all aspects of intelligent environmental monitoring, modeling and management topics and their applications.

Prospective authors are invited to submit original, high quality manuscripts of up to 6-pages electronically to “kkara@eng.auth.gr or “envicann2010@isag.meng.auth.gr”. The submissions will be reviewed rigorously by an international review committee. The submission must conform to the Springer LNCS format, detailed instructions for preparing the manuscript in the required format can be found in http://delab.csd.auth.gr/icann2010/submission.html.

All accepted papers will appear in a separate chapter of the ICANN 2010 conference proceedings, and will be considered (after review) for publication in an International Journal Special Issue (to be announced)
