Research Objectives
The project investigated aspects of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) and wireless sensor
networks (WSNs) related to data management issues and self-organization of the network nodes.
The first research direction investigated issues of self-organization with the objective to propose
more efficient ways to create hierarchies over the flat ad hoc networks. In this direction, the
project sought clustering methods which would take into account the structural characteristics of
the network, and also the application of concepts coming from the social network theory in the
problems of topology control.
The second direction involved issues relevant to data organization and management for ad hoc
networks. The objective was to propose efficient methods for multimedia data retrieval exploting
the techniques of caching and indexing.
