The Balkan Olympiad on Informatics (BOI)
is a programming contest for secondary school students of the Balkan countries. The basic rules of the competition are the same as the rules of the International Olympiad on Informatics (IOI). Until now 4 BOI have taken place.The 5th BOI will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece during October 1997 in the framework of "Thessaloniki, cultural capital of Europe for 1997".

The 1st BOI took place in Constantza, Romania, 24-29 of May 1993. The 2nd BOI took place in Thessaloniki, Greece, 1-7 of October 1994 The 3rd BOI took place in Varna, Bulgaria, 5-11 of October 1995 The 4th BOI took place in Nikosia, Cyprus, 19-25 of October 1996
